Morgantown, July 30 - WVU Lacrosse Club's Head Coach, Flip Green has announced the date of this year's MILT. The Mountaineer Invitational Lacrosse Tournament, also known as the MILT, will be held the weekend of October 10 & 11at Mountaineer Field. Coach Green hopes to have 8 college teams in the competition.
Editor's comment: Bill Warnick, former WVU defenseman & one time goalie, wants to field an Alumni team in the MILT. It is unknown if he will be able to get a competitive squad together. A few years ago, the WVU Alumni were THE team to beat in the MILT. Coach Green would like to see the Alumni show up to play a full slate of games in the tournament or at least to play the current WVU team in an exhibition game. Interested Alums can contact Bill at lax3358@hotmail.com .

South River, New Jersey, July 31 - WVU Grad, Bill Warnick has set up a registration form for the Alumni to commit to the MILT. Please check it out.

Wheeling, Aug. 4 - Wheeling Jesuit University's Coach Jay Sothoron has announced his first recruiting class for the 2009-2010 season.
Three of the 16 players signed are from the WVSLA.

The following profiles are from the WJU release on LaxPower - Click here for the whole article

Tyler Amos - Midfield - 6'1 - 175lbs - Wheeling Central Catholic/Wheeling, WV
Tyler a Wheeling native comes to Jesuit having dominated the local lacrosse circuit and was second in points in West Virginia with 93 and was a 2009 team captain at Wheeling Central Catholic. Tyler was also a member of the Pittsburgh Aces summer select team. He is a versatile player who is comfortable with both hands, and could find himself on the field at either attack or midfield.

Nathan Freeland - Midfield - 6'1 - 180lbs - Fairmont High School/Fairmont, WV
Nathan comes to Wheeling from Fairmont High School where he helped his team win the 2009 West Virginia state championship. Nathan was a two-year captain and 1st team WVSLA selection. He is a good athlete who will continue to improve at the college level.

Zach Klein - Attack - 6'0 - 165lbs - First Love Christian Academy/Washington, PA
Zach finished his senior year strong with 49 goals and 14 assists, giving him 1st team WVSLA honors. He has a great sense for the game and a nose to the goal, which will prove to be most beneficial for him in the college arena. Zach has a great stick with good athleticism, which should put in good position to better his game this fall and possibly find the field in the spring.

WJU Signs Six Student-Athletes for the 2010-2011 School Year.
WHEELING - Jan. 1 -
WJU's Head Coach Jay Sothoron is proud to announce the early signing of six student athletes that will represent Wheeling Jesuit University starting in the fall of 2010.  The six player offensive dominated class consists of three attackmen, two midfielders, and one defensemen.

“Entering my second year as head coach at WJU we are trying to bring in kids with great lacrosse ability and kids of great character.  We are trying to build a team that will be nationally ranked year after year.  Last year we made strides in the right direction finishing 8-4.  With this class I believe we are bringing in the kind of kids that will help us achieve our goals.  We are very young at the defensive end of the field so we really focused our efforts on bringing in offense.  We graduate three top goal scorers and I believe even though these kids are freshmen they are talented enough to step in and be successful.” Said Sothoron.

       * No one will be turned away for inability to pay. Scholarship applications will be at the YMCA desk or ask Jim Harris for details.
** Very important to get players registered soon.
Players will need full gear, including mouth guard and cup, in order to play. There will be a short drill session, then go straight to scrimmage. No "take out" checks, but plenty of fun. This is great for experienced players to get better and newer players to learn the game.
