Coaches & players: The constant request for refs is not a joke!

UPDATE #1: Feb. 15, 2024  - Three boys games have to be rescheduled
due to the lack of officials. Boys assigning official advises
that there may be more coming.
Update: Wheeling Central at Preston was canceled due to the
lack of officials. Then added again. It's a miracle!

UPDATE #2: Mar. 2, 2024 - Due to the lack of girls officials for a game at
Charleston Catholic, an official had to come from over 170 miles away,
over 2-1/2 hours one way, to cover the game, costing the home team a
game fee and the maximum travel fee.

UPDATE #3: Mar. 9, 2024 - At the girls Meltdowm at The Bridge,
there were 25 - 25 minute games with ONLY 4 OFFICIALS!!!

The Maryland officials cannot or will not cover our eastern panhandle teams and it is difficult to cover the interior of the state unless there is a local college game. Games have been shifted because of the lack of officials.

As coaches, we know who is out there who love the game. Former players are a good place to look. Talk to middle school basketball refs. Many of them are starting their officiating career and would relish an opportunity to earn some extra cash in the spring. I have personally recruited at least five officials over the years, and they have recruited others.

So, make an effort ASAP to recruit at least ONE person to officiate the boys or girls game. There is still time!
